Natural history overview
The museum holds a small natural history collection, dating back to times when collecting and displaying specimens was not only legal, but fashionable.
The stuffed birds, mammals and fish, and the small egg collection provide an interesting commentary on the history of wildlife, and of public attitudes to it.
The history of Wimbledon’s plants and animals
The museum also holds plants collected over the last 100 years in our area. These are available for study by experts wanting to know what used to thrive here. There is also much manuscript material documenting the natural history of our area in the inter-war years of last century.
