Curator, maps

cyril maidmentCyril Maidment, the museum’s curator of maps, is a retired chartered electrical engineer. Half of his working life was spent in the manufacturing industry and the other half at the British Standards Institution. Cyril has always lived in Merton or Wimbledon and has been a curator for about twenty years. He was Chair of the Museum Committee for more than five years, which he gave up in order to digitise and catalogue the museum’s collections of photographs, postcards, watercolours and prints, which took three years to complete. Cyril is also credited with the Sunday opening of the museum - but of course this is only possible with the museum’s precious volunteers and the invaluable administrator.

Other interests: family including two beautiful grand-daughters, AFC Wimbledon, Wimbledon FC, choral singing, local history, conducted walks, Merton Historical Society, Merton Abbey Water Mill, and Merton Priory Chapter House.
