Description: Photocopy of Judgement in Wandsworth County Court, 10 April 1974, re liability of a Mr. Miller, occupier of a house in Roehampton, to pay the Common Rate, although "the Parish of Putney", as specified in the Wimbledon and Putney Commons Act of 1871 no longer exists.  Judgement for the plaintiffs, the Conservators. (9 sheets. foolscap).

Description: Laidlaw Purves papers.   A9.6.1  Shorthand writer's transcript of hearing of a case before Mr. Justice Kekewich in the High Court (Chancery) in March 1890 regarding the election of Commons Conservators, Dr.W.L. Purves of Hardwicke Cottage, Wimbledon Common, contending that the election procedures in current use were not in accordance with the Wimbledon & Putney Commons Act of 1871. (foolscap. 46pp. Sewn in marbled paper wrapper together with affidavit and writ of summons and printed Statement of Claim)   A9.6.2  Printed copies of 12 Acts of Parliament 1832-90, including Wimbledon & Putney Commons Act 1871, with MS digest, printed copies of Conservators Bye-laws 1872, 1882, 1887, 1906, 1913, and an Order of 1886. Printed transcript of shorthand report of High Court (QB) case, Metropolitan Board of Works v.Pritchard, Dec.1883.  8vo. 35pp.   A9.6.3  2 files of newspaper cuttings of 1908 regarding golf and other games on the Common, which include reports of meetings of Commons Conservators and Wimbledon Citizens Association and accounts of case brought against W.L. Purves' son for playing golf on the Common. 6 copies of letter of W.L. Purves to Wimbledon Boro' News on 30 May 1908 entitled Parishioners' Rights on the Common.   A9.6.4  21 files and 10 single sheets of MS notes, drafts of letters etc., including interviews, dated 6 April 1908, with Casswell (no initials) and Mr. Mason on their memories of games on the Common.

Description: Middlesex and Surrey League for the Hard of Hearing. Wimbledon Group. Minutes and accounts 1964-1981. (Red quarto notebook, cloth cover, leather spine with gold lettering "Minute Book"). The volume includes the constitution of the Wimbledon Group, drawn up in 1963, some entries in an A-Z index, and TS Committee Minutes, starting on 5 February 1964, and ending 26 September 1979.  There are also statements of account and some plans for social functions.  The volume ends with correspondence between Mr. Creasey of the J.E. Society and the Treasurer of the Middlesex and Surrey League for the Hard of Hearing regarding the end of the Wimbledon Group.

Description: Box file of papers collected by C.S.S.Higham, when compiling his history of Wimbledon Manor House. They include correspondence, rough notes and memoranda, enlarged photocopies of relevant maps and plans, and essay on Thomas Cromwell at Mortlake House, which indicates how the Manor of Wimbledon came into Thomas Cromwell's possession.  Other historical collections of  C.S.S.Higham are deposited in Surrey Record Office.
