Welcome to the website of the Museum of Wimbledon

Our museum is small, friendly, and very unusual. You can find out about our history in the about section. We receive no external funding and the museum is run entirely by devoted volunteers. Our treasured collections reflect life in Wimbledon from early prehistory until the present day. Please come and visit us.

If you have an object you would like to donate to the Museum please email our head of collections Dr Pamela Greenwood on This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. . Please do not bring prospective donations to the Museum without making an appointment.

The Museum is in a lovely listed building in the heart of Wimbledon Village and admission is free. We are open every Saturday afternoon and Sunday afternoon from 2.30 to 5pm. Please note, the museum is on the first floor of a listed building. Unfortunately the only means of access involves climbing two flights of stairs. The Museum is small and seating is not usually provided for visitors. We are happy to arrange special visits to the Museum at times when it is not normally open, for those who would like to take their time climbing the stairs, or would welcome the provision of a seat at every case, or a quieter environment in which to view the displays.

We will also do our best to bring the Museum to you. We are happy to provide an illustrated talk about the museum for local groups who are unable to visit the museum building.

In addition to our permanent displays we have a programme of regular special exhibitions. You can also explore our individual collections online. In addition we are very happy to welcome researchers, scholars and members of the public who wish to consult our collections. Please contact us in advance to arrange an appointment at a time when the Museum is not open to the public, email: This email address is being protected from spambots. We also have an online bookshop with a range of excellent local history books, which are also on sale in the museum.

We hope to welcome you soon

The Norman Plastow Gallery

After many months of planning and sheer hard work, an "unusable" space in the Village Hall was transformed into a wonderful gallery. The gallery was officially opened on 1st March 2012 and holds regular exhibitions throughout the year. Details of the Museum's exhibitions can be found in the exhibitions section.
